RC Update – October 2018

Greetings Region 3!
Back in late September, I had the good fortune to once more attend FenCon, in Irving, TX. This is, bar none, my favorite convention – and one that really ‘recharges’ me each year. I did not go as any part of SFI, actually I was supporting a different fan group that I am a part of at the time – The Royal Manticoran Navy (TRMN). You may hear their name bantered about more these days, and in this update!
Also in late September was the 3BDE hosted trip to the Battleship Texas, in La Porte, TX. This is something we’ve done twice now, on years opposite the NASA trip. The previous time we did this we had about 18 participants from SFI and a few from TRMN. This year we had 41 participants from SFI, TRMN and KAG!
At both of these events, it was noted that not only do various fan orgs have a good deal of cross/dual membership, but that Joint Operations between our groups can be very successful and FUN! To that end, this is the sort of thing that our new Regional Event Coordinator will focus on.
Summit! Save the date(s)
Summit will be conducted 7 – 9 June, 2019 in Baton Rouge, LA, in the Baton Rouge Capital Center Hilton hotel. The contract is signed, and summit team is working to make it happen, now that the bid is confirmed and contract completed.
Please bear with us on the ability to sign up. Our previous event/ticketing platform has gone up in cost, forcing us to explore other options. We are nearly done with that, but there is some learning curves in implementation of the new platform. The good news is, it should all be handled ‘in house’ for the foreseeable future!
As part of this effort, you may notice that ALL Region 3 web sites are now HTTPS enabled – meaning we can implement secure functions within the site (and google will no longer flag us as ‘not secure’). A huge thanks to Kelly Hays for making this happen!
This Thursday will be a CCO meeting, conducted on the Region Discord server at 7:30PM. An agenda has been sent to the CCO list, but the main focus will be in planning out the rest of this year, and an initial go at next year’s schedule.
The much delayed Region Staff Manual is out! You can find it under Resources> Documents on the Region 3 website. This is not the step by step of each task of each job – but it is a far more detailed description of each role on R3 staff, as it stands right now. More will be added, generally in the form of appendices, as those task checklists get accomplished.
I know many have events planned for the end of this month, and the beginning of November – and I wish everyone well in those efforts. Stay safe!

Jeremy Carsten
Regional Coordinator,
STARFLEET Region 3
