A triangular section of rock from the Moon lies on a transparent plate between two covered goldtone mountings

Space Center Houston Visit Sept. 11, 2021

Have you touched the moon?  Even if you weren’t one of the Apollo astronauts who landed on the moon, you can still touch the moon at Space Center Houston.  Displayed so that you can slide your hand in to touch it, this moon rock is one of only eight in the world available to be touched by the public. It is approximately 3.8 billion years old and was brought to earth by Apollo 17, the last moon landing mission. And you can see the Apollo 17 crew capsule on display too, along with Mercury and Gemini capsules also flown in space.   These are but a few of the rare and fascinating items on display at Space Center Houston. Region 3 Day at Space Center Houston is less than a month away, September 11, so don’t delay purchasing your reduced price ticket through the Quartermaster (qm.region3.org). Be sure to make your dinner reservation as well for that evening.  Crowds will be slimmer after Labor Day so you’ll have plenty of “space” to distance safely.  Face masks are required indoors (it’s on Federal property).  If you need a room at the budget-friendly Days Inn and Suites NASA, please contact Lucy Franck directly to get on the reservation list (vrc@region3.org). Join us September 11 to touch the moon!
