The USS Zavala celebrated its 10th Anniversary of commissioning as a chapter of STARFLEET, Int., at a September 11 dinner at Mamacita’s Mexican Restaurant. This celebration followed the Region 3 Day at Space Center Houston, which the Zavala hosted for the fifth time. Approximately 50 Starfleet Region 3 members joined the celebration and Space Center Houston tour.

Regional Coordinator Jeremy Carsten and Zavala Commanding Officer Lucy Franck welcomed the dinner guests; as part of the celebration the USS Zavala surprised XO Rob Hunnicutt with promotion to the rank of Captain. In 2019 the Zavala received the Region 3 and overall Starfleet Chapter of the Year awards.

Admiral Lucy Franck reports, “The crew of the USS Zavala is excited to continue its mission as stated in its chapter by-laws: To promote Star Trek fan fellowship and support a positive vision of mankind’s future through community service and encouraging advances in science and space exploration.”
